An exhibition and talk presenting the work-in-progress results of IE Design Studio II students, developed in collaboration with CM Plastik, focused on creating products from recycled plastic panels made from waste materials.
The activity will feature IE design students, guided by professors Héctor Serrano, Miguel Leiro, Eli Gutiérrez, and Pablo Alabau. Several projects will be presented, exploring the relationship between sustainability, materiality, and use through product design.
Among them is Sliding Light, by Daniela Antimissaris, Carlota Castillo, and Manuela Rodríguez, a lamp combining CM Plastik and wood. Its design features a box with a sliding grille that modulates light intensity, creating different atmospheres and demonstrating how movement can transform both lighting and spatial perception.
Another project is Split U In Half, by Santi Jarquin, Zoe Boyd, and Leo Tubman, a chair made of wood and plastic with a total of 30 legs, 15 of each material. Each leg is constructed using a slat technique that enhances structural strength and aesthetics, held together by six stainless steel rods to ensure stability and durability.
Completing the selection is Hole-y Table, by Sara Baos, Justine Daubert, and Angela Martin-Retortillo, a table made from CM Plastik panels with minimal waste. Its single-panel top includes a cut-out that transforms part of the structure into a shelf, resting on a simple, sturdy wooden base, combining efficiency, functionality, and sustainability.
