La arquitecta Tatiana Bilbao se une al Madrid Design Festival para una conversación inspiradora sobre la intersección entre la arquitectura y la vida. La sesión explora cómo los espacios construidos influyen en la manera en que habitamos el mundo y cómo la empatía, la conciencia social y la materialidad pueden redefinir el futuro de la arquitectura y el diseño.
Reconocida como una de las voces más influyentes de la arquitectura contemporánea, Tatiana Bilbao combina sostenibilidad con compromiso social, buscando crear espacios que reflejen valores colectivos y respondan a necesidades humanas reales. En diálogo con la Dra. Grazielle Bruscato, profesora asistente en la IE School of Architecture and Design, esta sesión invita a la audiencia a reflexionar sobre el rol de arquitectos y diseñadores en un mundo en constante cambio.
La conversación abordará temas como procesos creativos, materialidad, inclusión en el diseño, artesanía, cuidado, dibujo y el papel del contexto cultural en la construcción de narrativas arquitectónicas. Bilbao compartirá insights de su práctica, destacando proyectos que encarnan su filosofía de la arquitectura como herramienta de transformación social.
Al conectar disciplinas y perspectivas, la sesión “Architecture Meets Life” busca inspirar a estudiantes, profesionales y aficionados de la arquitectura a imaginar nuevas formas de dar forma a los entornos en los que vivimos.
Tatiana Bilabo
Tatiana Bilbao fundó su estudio homónimo en 2004 con el objetivo de integrar investigación, diseño, estrategias comunitarias y construcción responsable. Su práctica desarrolla la arquitectura como plataforma para mejorar la vida en diversas geografías y tipologías. Antes de fundar su estudio, se desempeñó como asesora en el Ministerio de Desarrollo y Vivienda de la Ciudad de México.
Bilbao enseña en Yale University y ha ocupado cargos académicos en Columbia GSAPP, Harvard GSD, Rice University, así como en instituciones de Chile y Alemania. Su trabajo ha sido publicado en medios como The New York Times, A+U, Domus, Arquitectura Viva y El País, entre otros. A lo largo de su carrera, ha recibido múltiples premios y reconocimientos. En 2025, fue nombrada Honorary Fellow del American Institute of Architects (HFAIA), uno de los más altos reconocimientos para arquitectos no licenciados en EE. UU. Ese mismo año, su proyecto Sea of Cortez Research Center fue seleccionado como uno de los cinco finalistas del Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP).
Dra. Grazielle Bruscato Portella es profesora asistente en la School of Architecture and Design de IE University. Posee un doctorado en Bellas Artes y una maestría en Inteligencia Tecnológica y Diseño Digital. Sus intereses de investigación se sitúan en la intersección entre diseño, arte y prácticas tecnológicas, explorando enfoques fenomenológicos, relacionales, lentos y situados en entornos educativos, urbanos y naturales.

The session explores how built spaces shape the way we inhabit the world, and how empathy, social awareness, and materiality can redefine the future of architecture and design.
Recognized as one of the most influential voices in contemporary architecture, Tatiana Bilbao merges sustainability with social commitment, seeking to create spaces that reflect collective values and respond to real human needs. In dialogue with Dr. Grazielle Bruscato, Assistant Professor at IE School of Architecture and Design, this session invites the audience to reflect on the role of architects and designers in an ever-changing world.
The conversation will cover themes such as creative processes, materiality, inclusivity in design, craftsmanship, care, drawing, and the role of cultural context in shaping architectural narratives. Bilbao will share insights from her practice, highlighting projects that embody her philosophy of architecture as a tool for social transformation.
By bridging disciplines and perspectives, “Architecture Meets Life” seeks to inspire students, professionals, and architecture enthusiasts to imagine new ways of shaping the environments we live in.
Tatiana Bilbao
Tatiana Bilbao founded her eponymous studio in 2004 with the goal of integrating research, design, community-based strategies, and responsible construction. Her practice develops architecture as a platform to enhance life across diverse geographies and typologies. Before founding her studio, she served as an advisor at the Ministry of Development and Housing in Mexico City.
Bilbao teaches at Yale University and has held academic positions at Columbia GSAPP, Harvard GSD, Rice University, as well as institutions in Chile and Germany. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, A+U, Domus, Arquitectura Viva, and El País, among others. Throughout her career, she has received multiple awards and recognitions. In 2025, she was named an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (HFAIA), one of the highest honors for non-U.S.-licensed architects. That same year, her Sea of Cortez Research Center project was selected as one of the five finalists for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP).
Dr. Grazielle Bruscato Portella is an Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture and Design at IE University. She holds a PhD in Fine Arts and a Master’s in Technology Intelligence and Digital Design. Her research lies at the intersection of design, art, and technology practices, exploring phenomenological, relational, slow, and situated approaches in educational, urban, and natural environments.
