Christien Meindertsma explora minuciosamente, en su trabajo, la vida de los productos y de las materias primas. Durante las dos últimas décadas, ha llevado a cabo una investigación profunda sobre los materiales, descubriendo sus propiedades, así como las historias y los sistemas industriales que los rodean.
Centrada en la sostenibilidad y el ciclo de vida de los productos, la investigación más reciente de Meindertsma ha dado lugar a un método innovador para fieltrar lana en 3D: el FLOCKS Wobot. Al demostrar la posibilidad de fabricar objetos estructurales y tridimensionales utilizando únicamente lana, este proyecto revoluciona la reutilización de este material y destaca su enorme potencial para futuras aplicaciones.
Como primer prototipo complejo fabricado con el Wobot, Meindertsma presentó un cordero gigante y una silla construidos con lana europea que de otro modo habría sido descartada como residuo. En esta conversación, abordará el enorme potencial del diseño sostenible y circular en la producción de mobiliario y más allá.
Christien Meindertsma meticulously explores the life of products and raw materials in her work. Over the past two decades, she has conducted in-depth research into materials, uncovering their properties as well as the stories and industrial systems that surround them.
Focused on sustainability and product life cycles, Meindertsma’s most recent research has led to an innovative method for 3D felting wool: the FLOCKS Wobot. By demonstrating the possibility of creating structural, three-dimensional objects using only wool, this project revolutionizes the reuse of the material and highlights its enormous potential for future applications.
As the first complex prototype produced with the Wobot, Meindertsma presented a giant lamb and a chair made from European wool that would otherwise have been discarded as waste. In this conversation, she will explore the vast potential of sustainable and circular design in furniture production and beyond.
