FLORAR es una instalación lumínica y material que surge de la investigación sobre flores, naturaleza y biomateriales, proponiendo una experiencia sensorial donde la luz actúa como vínculo entre materia, emoción y espacio.
El proyecto nace del Trabajo Final de Máster en Diseño Textil y Nuevos Materiales de Paola Andrea López (IED Madrid) y se desarrolla como un universo creativo en expansión, donde las flores dejan de ser solo un motivo visual para convertirse en materia, concepto y lenguaje. FLORAR también es un verbo inventado: una acción sensible que implica florecer, sentir y transformar.
La instalación presenta una colección cápsula de luminarias inspiradas en la geometría floral. Cada pieza es una interpretación material y emocional de formas naturales, diseñada para generar atmósferas de calma, contemplación y bienestar. Las luminarias ofrecen lecturas distintas según la interacción con la luz natural y artificial del espacio, encendidas o apagadas.
Los objetos se crean mediante procesos experimentales que combinan exploración gráfica, diseño digital e investigación de materiales. Los patrones y estructuras florales se digitalizan y se transforman en volúmenes orgánicos que dialogan con la impresión 3D y el desarrollo de biomateriales, dando lugar a piezas translúcidas, texturales y sensibles, donde la luz atraviesa la materia y pone en valor sus capas y transformaciones.
La propuesta expositiva se organiza como un pequeño jardín interior, con una estructura ligera y autoportante. La instalación invita al visitante a detenerse, observar y reconectar con los ritmos naturales dentro del entorno arquitectónico.
FLORAR se sitúa en la intersección entre diseño, arte y experimentación material. Más que objetos, es una investigación en constante evolución que explora cómo lo natural puede florecer en espacios cotidianos y generar experiencias emocionales, sensoriales y contemplativas.
Paola Andrea López es arquitecta y diseñadora colombiana, fundadora de PALP. Su práctica explora la relación entre naturaleza, luz y biomateriales, transformando flores y formas naturales en objetos sensibles mediante procesos experimentales e impresión 3D. Es la creadora de FLORAR, proyecto que investiga el diseño emocional y la materialidad como generadores de bienestar y contemplación.
FLORAR is a luminous and material installation born from research on flowers, nature, and biomaterials, proposing a sensory experience where light acts as a link between matter, emotion, and space.
The project originates from the Master’s Final Project in Textile Design and New Materials by Paola Andrea López (IED Madrid) and develops as an expanding creative universe, where flowers cease to be merely a visual motif and become matter, concept, and language. FLORAR is also an invented verb: a sensitive action that implies flourishing, feeling, and transforming.
The installation presents a capsule collection of luminaires inspired by floral geometry. Each piece is a material and emotional interpretation of natural forms, designed to generate atmospheres of calm, contemplation, and well-being. The luminaires offer different readings depending on interaction with natural and artificial light, whether they are turned on or off.
The objects are created through experimental processes combining graphic exploration, digital design, and material research. Floral patterns and structures are digitized and transformed into organic volumes that interact with 3D printing and biomaterial development, resulting in translucent, textured, and sensitive pieces, where light passes through the matter and highlights its layers and transformations.
The exhibition is arranged as a small indoor garden, with a light, self-supporting structure. The installation invites visitors to pause, observe, and reconnect with natural rhythms within the architectural environment.
FLORAR lies at the intersection of design, art, and material experimentation. Beyond objects, it is a constantly evolving research project that explores how the natural world can flourish in everyday spaces, generating emotional, sensory, and contemplative experiences.
Paola Andrea López is a Colombian architect and designer, founder of PALP. Her practice explores the relationship between nature, light, and biomaterials, transforming flowers and natural forms into sensitive objects through experimental processes and 3D printing. She is the creator of FLORAR, a project that investigates emotional design and materiality as generators of well-being and contemplation.
